The largest volcanic lake in Europe and the fifth largest in Italy, is found a few kilometres north of the main town in the province of Viterbo at the borders of Tuscany and Umbria and approximately 40 kms from the Tyrrenian sea. A road of around 60 kms encircles it and whether you find yourself a few metres from the shore or far away on the coast, the view offered is always spectacular.
The Lake of Bolsena is easily reached from the A1 motorway, from the state road Aurelia SS 1 and from the state road Cassia SS 2. By rail to Orvieto, Viterbo or Rome and continuing by bus. The national and international airport of Rome, Fiumicino is about 140 kms. The port of Civitavecchia is approximately 40 kms.
To make it easy for you we have an online map
For those coming from the A1 motorway, exit at Orvieto and head towards Viterbo for approx 10 kms, then follow signs to Bolsena. After a few minutes, the agricultural lands will allow you to view, from a height, this magnificent lake.
For those coming from Rome and following the SS Cassia north, will meet the oldest town on the lake after 100 kms, the principal town of Montefiascone. A panoramic road immersed between oaks, orchards and vineyards, will be take you to the shores of the lake, with Martana Island that can be seen from much closer.
Coming from the north along the SS Cassia, about 100 kms from Siena, you will come to San Lorenzo Nuovo. A small centre place to lookout at the lake.
Taking the Aurelia way that follows the Tyrrhenian sea from the north (Genoa, Livorno, Grosseto) or from the south (Rome, Civitavecchia, Tarquinia), the advised exit is Montalto di Castro, then following the signs for Canino and Valentano. From the height of Valentano, you will be introduced to all the finery of the Lake of Bolsena showing to you the majestic and refined Bisentina Island.

Info & Contacts>>>
Before presenting the exceptional landscape for our next excursion, it is necessary to highlight our conception of the territory and its protection, the deep link with this and our belief that a correct approach for a right and winning formula.. we always pay attention to the exploitation of the human components, forever linked to the territory. Not only extraordinary landscape and evocative corners, but also history, culture and traditions of the people who live there, even though in the effort to defend them and keep them from the grips of homologation and globalisation.
This site wants to be a homage to our ancestors and to the spirits of the place further than being a point of reference and propagation for the inhabitants, the tourists, the schools and the curious ones.
