(5,25 square km with 1147 inhabitants: San Giovannesi)

It seems that the small hamlet in the heart of a valley rich in vegetation, was already inhabited during the Etruscan and Romanesque ages, as some finds , discovered in the surrounding territory, testify. In the ancient mediaeval hamlet the houses without plaster, with stone walls are very characteristic. Many important monuments were destroyed during the invasions and sacks suffered by the village during the centuries, in consequence of the proximity to two roads of strategic importance, the Via Clodia and the Via Cassia, that put in danger the security of the small village, continuously attacked by the Roman armies.

PLACES TO VISIT

Church of John the Baptist

It was built in the XVIII century thanks to the charitable donation of the inhabitants and it is the biggest religious building in the village, On its inside it is possible to admire important works dating back to different historical periods.

The remains of the Roman villa

They are located in the heart of the village and are protected by a transparent covering that let people admire them.

St. Marys church

On its inside there are four Baroque altars, the biggest of which is excellently decorated with Ō stucchi Ō. The structure dates back to the XVI century.
