TREKKING SCHOOL
This project is addressed to the schools, that means young people. It presents two basical purposes: reapproaching the young ones to the natural environment to understand the importance of a b obligation for the defense and safeguard of it.
The other one of historical- geographical style, a lesson on the field.
At this point it’s an unanimous opinion the validity of a direct experience of the study on the territory to check by yourselves the environment and the dramatic conditions in which the past wars have been developed.
With the purpose to stimulate the interest you could, for instance, participate to the “national prize of historical, ethnographical and naturalistic trekking”, organized for the schools by a popular, specialized magazine in this field, that describes point by point what will be disclosed to your eyes: the people, the traditions, the rural architectures, the hard daily work in the past and in the present, the variety of the natural environments and the anthropical landscapes.
THE ITINERARIES
The many possibilities satisfies every expectation, the selected routes on the area of the Bolsena lake’s basin bring us in an unthinkable dimension on the indelible traces left by the Etruscans, or even before up to the first villanovian settlements, in the charm of an extraordinary rich nature and of the enchanting panoramas.
It’s a wonder to be in a place where history, nature and the man with his ancient customs and works cohabit. The lake, where you can choose a sun bath or a bath in the green and transparent waters between wild ducks and cormorans, now inhabitants on the two islands, Bisentina and Martana.
The beauty to assist to fascinating sunsets or to inebriate with the smell of our vintage from the small streets and old wine cellars and more, to observe, at the end of the day, the return of the last Capodimonte fisherman with his characteristic boat and the sun behind him going down in the Bisenzio horizon.
But the bond between nature and history is deep and goes over the basin of the Bolsena lake. Its volcanic origin and the history of the Etruscans is found on a wider geographical area where the lake’s basin represents only an inseparable part of it. For that, other itineraries will bring you to discover this bond exploring the two nearest principal volcanic lakes: Bracciano and Vico.
This last in particularly represents an area of great naturalistic-environmental interest with Fogliano mountain covered of woods where you can find, climbing on, the Cerris, then the Chestnut tree and finally, extraordinary thing at already 600 meters over-sea-level, the Beech tree with imposing exemplaries. The wood goes down exceptionally along the steep walls of the crater up to the lake’s shores where the Natural Reserve of the Vico lake owns from a long time a rich and varied fauna.
THE PROTECTED OASES
On this territory, more than the Reserve of the Vico lake, are present a lot of other protected areas. Particularly interesting are the unbelievable and mysterious SELVA DEL LAMONE in Farnese and the Natural Reserve of RUFENO mountain in Acquapendente. Two realities, that boast from a long time an own organization in fully coherence with the natural territory.
THE FRANCIGENA ROAD
Particular attention deserves the rediscovery of one of the most important ancient communication road that made the history of the medieval pilgrimage. The Francigena road, toward Rome, crosses our territory leaving indelible signs of a b historical, cultural, anthropological interest.
THE ETRUSCANS… THE ROMANS… :
THE CLODIA STREET
Because of its particular geographical position, the ground morphology and its origins we can take it as reference and departure point for this extraordinary route: the Suburban Park MARTURANUM in Barbarano Romano with its etruscan necropolis. Along deep and sometimes impervious gorges dug in the tufa highland by the waters of the Biedano stream, we go over, on many stretches, the ancient CLODIA street traced by the Romans on the civilization of a people who lived on this area, being in bly connection with it.
Following the Biedano stream’s way, we reach then Blera and its necropolis. Going on, the stream becomes a river and it crosses a long and wild valley dominated by two tufa ridges that testifies the oneness of the Rocky Necropolis of NORCHIA: a bly suggestive impact able to relight those basical values handed down by the Etruscans: these emotions have to provoke the meaning of the Trekking.
