Discover the Lake of Bolsena, and see it from a different point of view, enjoy the feeling of freedom, quietness that gives you a silent sailijng or an exiting motor boat tour looking at the white wake on the deep blue of the waters… and something different, more “being water ourselves” identify completely with the element we’re in.
All this is possible, we only need to go and dare an exiting kayak tour following the courses that the local people are traced for ages, with hand-carved wooden pirogues, for their fishing, hunting and all the activities that made possible the living around the lake. Different for us today, the needs of our life are so different… but it’s essential not to forget about certain experiences that belongs to our DNA and its incredible how they can come to light sensations that were left far behind in our memories, in the deep of our unconscious. For these and other reasons we suggest kayak tours on the lake of Bolsena.
The journeys can be quite various: sailing along the coasts is possible to reach the ancient archeologic site of Monte Bisenzio, land in little desert caves, climb on the peak to visit the archeologic park, the acropolis of the Umbrian-Etruscan city of Vesentum, once the undisputed ruler of the lake. Or else it is possible to follow the boundary of Capodimonte, a promontory immerse like a big whale that gently drowse off in a millennial sleep… For those who aime to lead off-shore and face a longer journey we head the bow North and go for the magnificent lush Isle Bisentina, uncontaminated pearl, lying on a bed of waters from a cobalt blue to sage green or pearl grey on a summer afternoon, it’s surrounded by seething life in the waters and on the air by royal seagulls, pheasants, and many other bird species; in the winter season hundreds of cormorans nest on the Northern wall of the island and from here they rapidly fly towards the waters to fish their prey.
The calm lapping of the waves on the silent enchanted silence of this place making you feel as if in an exotic and far away spot other than in a quiet lake. But there is something else: you can reach the second pearl of the lake in a short while, the Martana Island, stately and rocky, situated at the North East from where we stert our journey. After half an hour of good paddling we can reach it and admire its cliffs, the ruins of a castle that hosted the famous Amalasunta, unluky queen who was crueltly assassinated by her father Teodorico, King of the Gotes. Looking at the Isle from its Northern side we can admire a beautiful steep wall shaped as a semicircle, (which somebody compared with the famous greek island of Santorini) from here is easy to guess how the entire island was one of the eruptive cones of the Vulsinian volcano. Therefore we understand and consider the kayak a unique means of transport that allows us to reach in a short time and in perfect autonomy places not always easy to reach other than with similar boats.
A kayak journey is really a different experience, a full immersion in environment, we will have our need of nature completely satisfied, we’ll let ourselves be held by water, called by ancestral reminiscences…
