It seems that the small hamlet in the heart of a valley rich in vegetation, was already inhabited during the Etruscan and Romanesque ages, as some finds ,
discovered in the surrounding territory, testify. In the ancient mediaeval hamlet the houses without plaster, with stone walls are very characteristic.
Many important monuments were destroyed during the invasions and sacks suffered by the village during the centuries, in consequence of the proximity to
two roads of strategic importance, the Via Clodia and the Via Cassia, that put in danger the security of the small village, continuously attacked by the
Roman armies.
