The characteristic of the small village is that it rises close to a tufaceous cliff on the valley of the Tiber, that in the past made it an important and strategic obstacle against any attack. Civitella is named after the castle of Agliano which is located at 2 km from the present village. Until 1452 Civitella d’Agliano belonged to the Monaldeschi and it was ruled by Orvieto an later it came into the Apostolic Cameras possession. As proof of the long presence of the Monaldeschi there are the remains of the castle, which is surely worthy of visiting.
