Tessennano is one of the smallest villages in the province of Viterbo and in Latium and it extends on a territory of about 1450 hectares. It is located in a rather optimal position from then climatic point of view, it is at only 6 km from the Via Castrense. The population is of about 420 inhabitants, on slow decrease . Small mediaeval centre, it was castle of Tuscania and we have no more news of it since the Schism. Later it was given by Pope Leone X to Cardinal Albornoz and to Pierluigi Farnese, it was included in the Dukedom of Castro in 1537 and in 1649 it was incorporated in it . In 1788 Pope VI ceded Tessennano , Piansano and Cellere in emphyteusis to the marquis Giovan Battista Casali Patriarca and to his successors. The land is particularly fertile, suitable mainly for the cultivation of olive-trees, cereals, vineyards and for the breeding of cattle, sheep and horses.
