It is located in an area rich in vineyards and olive-groves, at 384 metres above sea-level, at about 40 km from Viterbo, In the surrounding territories,
numerous finds, which testify that the area was already inhabited in the prehistory, have been discovered. There are also some remains which testify the
Etruscan origin of the village. It was ruled by the Romans and later, at the end of the 13th century, it became part of the properties of the Farnese until 1649.

The cathedral

The imposing church, so big in comparison with the small village, designed by Prada, was built in the 2nd half of 1700. The faade is in pure
Baroque style and on its inside, subdivided into three naves, there is a font dating back to 1538 and a wonderful Sienese school fresco which portrays
The Madonna del Popolo.

The archaeological area

The archaeological area includes the town of Castro, the mediaeval rupestral hermitages, the remains
of the Roman villa Servicciola , the prehistoric cave of Sette Cannelle (for guided visits one must apply to the Civic Museum).
