The characteristic village is located in the valley of the Tiber. According to a popular legend the first stone of Gallese was put by Haleso, the son
of Agamennone who gave birth to the stock of the Faliscans. As it is testified by numerous documents and historical finds, the origins of the village are really
very old. In the area there are numerous Etruscan sites, where it is possible to visit a multiplicity of tombs of various typologies. In 733 the village was
sold by the duke of Spoleto, Trasimondo to Gregorio III and the village became a bishopÕs see. The village was always devoted to the Church to which it
consecrated two popes: Martino V in 882 and Romano I in 892.
