Climate

The climate of the Lake of Bolsena is mild and moderate also in the winter months unless they run into periods of north wind and winds coming from north north west, that are b and can last from three to seven days.

The air is always clear and clean and the sky blue and clear reflecting on the lake giving a cobalt blue that varies and tones on her surface but not in such an homogenous way to envy the more beautiful and stimulating colours of the tropical seas ….we have only the dark sand but we believe you will be amazed by the colours and forget that it is a lake and will say it ‘feels like the sea’.

Indeed our lake, if not bordered by the Volsini mountains that define the shores would have all the morphological characteristics of a maritime area, and what an area!!! An ideal place to hibernate, to spend time, to live and for your holiday!

Consider the lake climate for its effects on the human body, for example the Lake of Bolsena and of Bracciano in central Italy, the Lakes of Como, Maggiore and Garda in the northern part.
For the fact that only a large mass of water can give you a climate which includes a considerable variation in the principal atmospheric factors, the temperature, relative humidity of the air and the breezes, in a particular summery way and in some instances the precipitations.
While other elements, like the atmospheric pressure, the ionisation of the air, the exposure and the ultraviolet rays are almost equal to the surrounding country and not worthwhile to consider valid elements from a statistical point of view.

The Lake of Bolsena therefore introduces the following specific characteristics: At an altitude of 305 metres above sea level, a weak wind and at times rather b, also in the warm summery days, owing to the lake breezes in the day and from the mountains at night.
Rather high atmospheric pressure, especially during the summery and wintery anticyclone periods. Temperatures less severe in winter and less sultry in summer, for the mitigating action of the watery surface, for the better air and for it’s position in the moderate zone of central Italy.

Relatively high humidity, especially during the winter months and during the night. Ionisation of the often positive air with transparency of the moderate air; to days shortened by the presence of dense haze and sometimes of foggy formations, in a particular way during the winter period.
Degree of atmospheric pollution lower outside of the boundary of the Volsini mountains, even if the constant increase of traffic on both sides in recent years has brought a considerable increase of low ozone layers in summer and fine dust particularly in the tourist season.

For the orographical conformation of the lake, situated in a valley encircled by the Volsini mountains, on their fertile banks are woods of oak and chestnut, combined with vines, olives and market gardens, often the disturbances both in the winter and summer months go around the lake without creating particular interest. Sufficient exposure, also in the winter months on the northern zones.
More intense ultraviolet radiation of the surrounding level zones, especially in the winter months on the north west area.

The climate of the Lake of Bolsena, like the rest of the places in Italy, has a rather sedate climate suited to children and the old, as well as all other persons escaping from the city for a period of relaxation and to recover from the conditions associated with stress. A period of ”lake climate” can be very beneficial to the health, recharging lost energies and increasing the defense of stress.
