(17,25 square km with 2012 inhabitants: Carbognanesi)

There are several interpretations about the origin of its name. According to some, it derives from the numerous charcoal kilns which spread thanks to the thick woods. According to others, the village is named after the Carbones, powerful land owners. The territory is surrounded by the Monti Cimini. Its origins are Etruscan and Etruscan traces are visible in the whole area. In the year 1000 the hamlet belonged to the abbey of Farfa and later was ruled by the Vico and by the Anguillara, who always in conflict one against the other and against the Church, struggled for power until Pio II in 1462, entrusted the castle to the Count Christopher from Carbognano and then to Pietro Paolo Nardini.

PLACES TO VISIT

The church of St. Filippo Neri

It was built in 1600, the structure is of small dimensions, but on its inside there is a particularly interesting 14th century holy water stoup.

St. Peters church

It was built beginning from 1780 on the remains of a pre-existent edifice and it is the most imposing building in Carbognano.

The church of the Madonna della Valle

It is worthy of note mainly for the 16th century frescos kept on its inside and attributed to Pastura. Some frescos dating back to the same period, are kept in the church of St. Eutizio as well.
