(92,79 square km with 3193 inhabitants: Bleresi)
The small hamlet is located at the confluence of the stream Biedano and Rio Canale, at 275 metres above sea-level, at the foot of the Monti Cimini.
In the surrounding territory there are numerous necropolises and the remains of the Etruscan Luni. During the Roman domination, Blera was the last outpost of
the Etruria and marked its boundary. During the Etruscan period this place had a remarkable importance as it was in control of the lay-out of an ancient road
which connected the area around Cerveteri to the area around the Monti Volsini ( followed faithfully by the Roman lay-out of the Via Appia , 3rd century B.C. )
and the Via Dogana which connected, through the Monti della Tolfa, the coast to the hinterland.
PLACES TO VISIT
St. Mary's church
In the past it was the cathedral of a diocese that had 14 bishops. The faade and the portal are of Renaissance origin and date back to 1507.
Grotta Porcina
It is located at 4 km from Blera, at north-west, on the top of a hill, there are the remains of a big Etruscan tumulus.
The archaeological area of St. Giovenale
It is located on the road leading to Monteromano and Civitella Cesi and evokes the memory of Gustavo VI Adolfo of Sweden, to
whom numerous archaeological excavations in the 50s and 60s are due.
