It is located at 304 metres above sea-level. During World War II, it was destroyed in a bombardment and was
completely rebuilt preserving the old aspect and the savour of ancient hamlet. Now it is an elegant residential place.
The small village is located on the road for Orte, at the foot of the Monti Cimini, looking towards the Tiber.
Some historical documents testify that the Romans, after the victorious battle of the Vadimone lake in 310 B.C. and then in 283 B.C.,
founded on these hills a castrum to consolidate the acquired dominion on Etruscan people and to control the navigation on the Tiber.
PLACES TO VISIT
Fortress Farnese
The imposing large tower of octagonal shapes, dating back to the end of the XII century. Later modified, is destination of
many lovers of fifteenth century architecture.
Collegiate church of St. John the Evangelist
It is particularly interesting to visit its charming and elegant inside. It was built in 1200 and later was restored several times.
The bells come from the destroyed cathedral of Castro.
Church of St. Maria dei Lumi
It is a Romanesque style church, simple, but particularly charming and imposing . It was built entirely with peperino blocks.
The close bell tower was originally built inside the walls of the castle and the incorporated in the clock tower, between the XVI and the XVII century.
